Karis is 8 years old and in 2nd grade. She was diagnosed at the age of 5 with an aggressive brain cancer called medulloblastoma. She had 3 tumors in her brain with metastasis to the spine. Karis underwent 2 brain surgeries with the 2nd one being a craniotomy, 8 rounds of high dose chemo, 30 radiation treatments to her brain and spine, multiple hospitalizations, countless units of blood and platelets, lab work, medications and doctor visits. She suffered severe burns to her back from the radiation requiring frequent visits to the burn unit and then a life threatening infection after her first round of maintenance chemo, which resulted in her missing her last days of kindergarten. After all she has endured, Karis finished her last round of chemo Oct. 2013 and was declared cancer free! She continues to remain cancer free and is just enjoying being a happy, carefree kid.
